TransPennine Express rail infotainment

A world first in train travel… bringing HBO’s Game of Thrones to InterCity rail passengers

Our client

TransPennine Express, part of First Group PLC.
They love the North of England. It’s a vibrant, thriving place where there’s more happening than ever before.
To connect communities, people and cities, by offering faster, easier journeys and a step change in rail services: an InterCity of the North, if you will. With over £500m of investment to deliver (including 44 new intercity trains), they are all set to take the North further, expanding links and the economy. There was just one thing missing – on-board entertainment.

Their challenge

TransPennine Express had a desire to upgrade their on-board experience for customers.

The solution

It is time to sit back, relax and enjoy the main event: we launched a brilliant new onboard system offering complimentary entertainment on TransPennine Express trains across North & South Pennines and into Scotland.
As part of their franchise bid, GoMedia worked with TransPennine Express to create a mix of services and content to appeal to a wide range of customers. The result was ExStream - a compelling on-board infotainment solution which offers a free-to-view mix of TV, movies, music and magazines.
After connecting to the free on-board Wi-Fi, passengers can access premium content from HBO including HBO Game of Thrones, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Wire and The Sopranos. Plus, customers can choose to get the latest updates from Sky News or a reality fix from hayu.
The service refreshes daily with new updates, programmes and packages. In Summer 2018 an ITV catch up service was added – enabling passengers to watch the likes of Love Island 2018 and Coronation Street the day after broadcast – including a full range of box sets.
